Chemical Peel Guide From Call of Beauty in Encinitas
BioRePeel vs Chemical Peel: Same Category, Very Different Treatments
One peel works without visible peeling. The other peels your skin for days. Here's when each option makes sense, what they cost, and how we use both at our Encinitas clinic.
BioRePeel
Biphasic TCA peel with zero downtime
ZO 3-Step Peel
Professional corrective peel for deeper concerns
Pricing
$325-$395 per session at Call of Beauty
BioRePeel vs chemical peel is a comparison that trips people up because BioRePeel is a chemical peel. It uses TCA, one of the strongest peel acids in skincare. But its biphasic formula delivers those acids without the days of visible shedding that traditional peels are known for. At Call of Beauty in Encinitas, we carry both BioRePeel and the ZO 3-Step Peel, and we recommend them for different reasons.
This guide covers how each peel works, what it costs, who it's best for, and why some of our patients end up doing both.

How BioRePeel Works Without Peeling
The word "peel" sets up an expectation. You picture flaking, redness, maybe a few days of hiding from neighbors at the Encinitas Trader Joe's. BioRePeel doesn't work that way.
It's a biphasic formula, meaning it has two phases: a lipophilic (oil-loving) layer and a hydrophilic (water-loving) layer. The lipophilic phase carries TCA and other acids past the skin barrier to stimulate cell turnover and collagen production at a deeper level. The hydrophilic phase delivers amino acids, vitamins, and GABA to the surface to calm and hydrate.
The result: your skin gets the corrective benefits of TCA without the surface disruption. No visible peeling. No redness that lasts more than an hour. You could get a BioRePeel treatment at our clinic on a Friday morning and hit Swami's Beach by noon.
That's not marketing fluff. It's just how the chemistry works.
When a Deeper Peel Does More
BioRePeel handles a lot. But it's not the right tool for every skin concern. Stubborn melasma, deep sun damage from years of North County living, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation from acne: these problems sit deeper than the surface, and they need a peel that reaches further.
The ZO 3-Step Peel is a professional-grade retinol and multi-acid peel designed by dermatologist Dr. Zein Obagi. It penetrates deeper than BioRePeel, triggers more aggressive cell turnover, and produces visible peeling for 3-5 days. That peeling is the point. Old, damaged skin sheds and fresh, more evenly pigmented skin replaces it.
For patients dealing with melasma or years of accumulated sun spots, the ZO peel paired with a proper home care routine gives results that lighter peels can't match. We see dramatic improvement after just one or two sessions.
Matching Your Peel to Your Skin Concern
Not every peel treats every problem equally. Here's what we recommend based on what walks into our treatment room.
The Downtime Factor
When patients weigh biorepeel vs chemical peel options, downtime is usually the tiebreaker. And honestly, most people end up choosing BioRePeel because it fits their life. In Encinitas, people surf before work, walk the dog along Moonlight Beach at lunch, and meet friends at Leucadia coffee shops on weekends. Three to five days of visible peeling doesn't fit that schedule.
BioRePeel has no downtime at all. Your skin might look slightly flushed for 30-60 minutes after treatment. That's it. You can apply makeup, go outside, live your day.
The ZO 3-Step Peel requires planning. Days 2 through 5, your skin will flake and shed in visible sheets. It's not painful, but you'll want to clear your social calendar. We tell patients to schedule it before a quiet weekend or a stretch of working from home. Sunscreen is non-negotiable during the peeling phase (it's always non-negotiable in North County, but especially then).
Timing Your ZO Peel
Alternating Peels for Better Results
Here's what we tell patients who can't decide between BioRePeel vs chemical peel: try both, just not at the same time.
A rotation that works well for many of our Encinitas patients: get a BioRePeel monthly as your baseline maintenance. It keeps skin bright, clears surface congestion, and supports collagen production with zero disruption to your routine. Then, once or twice a year, swap in a ZO 3-Step Peel when you want a deeper correction. Maybe in January after the holidays, or in early fall before the social season picks up.
The BioRePeel sessions maintain your results between the deeper peels. And the deeper peels knock out the stubborn pigmentation and texture issues that BioRePeel manages but doesn't fully resolve. The two treatments complement each other instead of competing.
You can also pair either peel with microneedling for even stronger results. We space treatments 2-3 weeks apart so your skin recovers fully between sessions.
Who Should Pick Which Peel

- •You have active acne or congestion-prone skin
- •You're new to chemical peels and want to start gentle

What a BioRePeel Session Looks Like
The whole appointment takes about 30-45 minutes. Our RN team cleanses your skin, then applies the BioRePeel solution in a specific massaging technique that activates the biphasic formula. You'll feel a slight tingle, sometimes a warming sensation. Nothing that requires numbing cream.
After about 5-8 minutes, the solution is removed. A calming serum and SPF go on. Done.
Patients consistently say two things after their first BioRePeel: "That's it?" and "My skin looks amazing." Both are accurate.
The treatment is safe for all skin types, including darker skin tones that carry a higher risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation with aggressive peels. It's also safe year-round, which matters when you live somewhere as sunny as Encinitas. Traditional peels are typically restricted to fall and winter months. BioRePeel doesn't have that limitation.

BioRePeel vs Chemical Peel: Common Questions

Not Sure Which Peel Fits Your Skin?
Book a consultation at Call of Beauty in Encinitas. Our RN team evaluates your skin type, your lifestyle, and your specific concerns, then recommends the right peel (or combination) for you. BioRePeel starts at $325. ZO 3-Step Peel starts at $395. No pressure, just a clear plan for your skin.
The biorepeel vs chemical peel decision comes down to two questions: how much downtime can you handle, and how deep do your skin concerns go? For most people in Encinitas, BioRePeel covers 80% of what they need with zero disruption. For the other 20%, the ZO peel fills the gap. And for the best results, the two work together.
