Which lip filler do you use for Del Mar patients?

Juvederm Volbella and Restylane Kysse are the two we reach for most in the lips, with RHA 2 for very expressive lips. Volbella is the softer, lower-volume option that suits a hydrated, natural look; Kysse holds shape a little more and defines the border and cupid's bow. The choice is made in the chair after your injector looks at your lip shape, not pre-selected at booking.

Do you do under-eye or tear trough filler?

Yes, for the right candidate. A thin, low-swelling gel such as Restylane or Juvederm Volbella is placed with a cannula along the hollow between the lower lid and the cheek. It works well for a true hollow with good skin; it is the wrong tool for puffiness or loose skin, and we will say so at the consultation rather than inject. Many under-eye hollows are better corrected by supporting the cheek first.

What is cheek filler and how much do I need?

Cheek filler uses a firmer gel such as Juvederm Voluma or Restylane Lyft placed deep on the cheekbone to restore the volume that flattens with age, which also lifts the lower face slightly. Most Del Mar patients use one to two syringes across both cheeks. Results are visible immediately and last 12 to 18 months, longer than lip filler because the cheeks move less.

Can you do chin or jawline filler for a weak profile?

Yes. Juvederm Volux and Restylane Defyne are built for the chin and jawline: firm enough to project the chin forward or sharpen the angle of the jaw, with results that last 12 to 24 months. A chin usually takes one to two syringes, a full jawline two to three. A profile photo at your consultation is the quickest way to see what is realistic.

How far is your clinic from Del Mar?

We are at 90 N Coast Hwy 101 in Encinitas. From Del Mar Village it is about 10 minutes north on Coast Highway 101. From Del Mar Heights and Del Mar Mesa plan 12 to 15 minutes by I-5 north to Encinitas Boulevard; from Torrey Pines about 15 minutes along the coast; from Carmel Valley 15 to 18 minutes.

How long will I be swollen after lip filler?

Lips swell more than any other filler area. Expect the most swelling the morning after treatment, noticeable improvement by day three and a settled result at two weeks. Ice for the first evening, sleep with your head slightly raised, and skip salt water, hard exercise and hot drinks for 24 to 48 hours. Cheeks, chin and jawline swell far less and are usually presentable the same day.

What if I do not like the result?

Hyaluronic acid fillers are reversible. If a result is uneven or heavier than you wanted after the two-week settling period, hyaluronidase dissolves the product in a single short visit, at $349 per vial, and most lip corrections take one or two vials. We also start first-time lip patients with half a syringe when there is any doubt, so the more common path is adding a little rather than taking some away.

Most Del Mar patients arrive with one area in mind and leave understanding how it connects to the others. Flat cheeks deepen the under-eye hollow. A short chin makes lips look larger than they are. Treating the right area first often means treating less overall. Here is how we think about each one.

Lip Filler

The most requested filler in Del Mar. Half a syringe to one syringe of Juvederm Volbella, Restylane Kysse or RHA 2 adds hydration, evens out asymmetry and defines the border without a visible change in size unless you ask for one. Lasts 6 to 12 months.

Cheek Filler

One to two syringes of Juvederm Voluma or Restylane Lyft placed deep on the cheekbone. Restores the mid-face volume that thins in the forties and lifts the nasolabial fold a little as a bonus. Lasts 12 to 18 months and swells very little.

Under-Eye (Tear Trough)

A thin gel placed with a cannula into the hollow between the lower lid and cheek, usually half a syringe to one syringe for both sides. For true hollows with good skin only; puffiness and laxity need a different plan. Lasts 9 to 12 months.

Chin Filler

One to two syringes of Juvederm Volux or Restylane Defyne projects a recessed chin forward and lengthens a short lower face. The single most profile-changing syringe we place. Lasts 12 to 24 months.

Jawline Filler

Two to three syringes of a firm gel along the mandible to sharpen the angle and hide early jowling. Popular with men and with anyone who has lost definition after weight change. Lasts 12 to 24 months.

Nasolabial and Marionette Lines

One syringe of a flexible gel such as Juvederm Vollure or Restylane Refyne softens the folds from nose to mouth and mouth to chin. Often needed less than expected once the cheeks are supported. Lasts 9 to 15 months.

When several areas are in play, we plan them as one map and stage the syringes across two or three visits. A full plan of that kind is what we call facial balancing, priced from From $2,900 depending on syringe count, and it is a better use of product than filling each area in isolation.

Juvederm, Restylane or RHA: Matching the Gel to the Area

Every filler we carry is hyaluronic acid, but the gels are engineered very differently. Thickness decides how much lift a syringe gives; flexibility decides how it behaves when you talk, smile and chew. Del Mar patients often arrive asking for Juvederm by name, and sometimes it is the right call, but the product should follow the area rather than the other way around.

Juvederm (Allergan)

Volbella for lips and under-eyes, Ultra XC for fuller lips, Vollure for folds, Voluma for cheeks and Volux for chin and jawline. The widest range we carry, with lidocaine in every syringe. Voluma and Volux are the firmest gels on the shelf.

Restylane (Galderma)

Kysse for lips, Lyft for cheeks, Defyne for chin and jawline, Refyne for soft folds, Contour for cheek definition. Restylane gels flex with expression, which many patients prefer in the lips and around the mouth.

RHA (Revance)

RHA 2, 3 and 4, designed for the most mobile parts of the face. RHA 2 in expressive lips, RHA 3 in folds and RHA 4 for deeper cheek volume. Chosen when a previous filler looked stiff or shifted with movement.

Is Filler the Right Tool for What You See?

Filler replaces volume and builds structure. It does not relax a muscle, tighten loose skin or lighten pigment. A good consultation sorts your concern into the right category before any product is chosen, and sometimes the answer is Botox in Del Mar for a movement line, or a collagen-stimulating treatment for crepey skin, rather than filler at all.

Lips that have thinned, lost their border or sit unevenly

Cheeks that have flattened and pulled the under-eye hollow downward

A chin that sits behind the lower lip in profile

A jawline that has softened with age or weight change

Folds from nose to mouth that remain when your face is at rest

What a Filler Appointment Looks Like From Del Mar

Consultation in the chair

Your injector looks at the area from the front, the side and in motion, photographs it, and explains which product, how many syringes and what the result will and will not do. This takes ten to fifteen minutes and is where the price is fixed.

Numbing

Topical anaesthetic sits on the skin for 15 to 20 minutes. Every gel we use has lidocaine mixed in, so the area goes numb further as the injection proceeds. Lips feel pressure and the occasional sting; cheeks and jawline feel very little.

Placement

Ten to twenty minutes of injection. A blunt cannula is used for under-eyes, cheeks and jawline to reduce bruising; a fine needle for the lip border and precise shaping. Your injector stops to let you look in the mirror partway through.

Ice, aftercare and the two-week check

A few minutes of ice, written aftercare and a check-in date two weeks out. Avoid make-up on the area for the rest of the day, hard exercise and heat for 24 hours, and dental work for two weeks.

Block out 60 to 75 minutes in the building. Most Del Mar patients add the ten-minute drive each way and are home within two hours. Parking is free in the garage behind the building.

What the first two weeks look like, so the result you judge is the real one

Swelling, Settling and the Two-Week Mark

The result you see in the mirror immediately after treatment is not the result. Filler draws water for the first few days and the tissue around it swells, so lips in particular look fuller on day one and two than they will at two weeks. Judging the work before it settles is the single most common reason people believe they were over-filled.

Here is the usual timeline. Lips peak in swelling the next morning and look close to final by day four or five, with the last of the firmness gone at two weeks. Cheeks and chin swell lightly and are presentable the same evening. Under-eyes can hold a little puffiness for a week and should never be judged before day ten. Bruising, when it happens, is usually a small spot at an entry point that make-up covers after 24 hours.

For the first 48 hours, skip salt water, hot yoga, the sauna and long sun. Sleep with your head a little raised the first night. Ice on and off the first evening. After that, your normal routine, including sunscreen, is fine. Avoid anything that presses firmly on the area for two weeks, which for Del Mar patients usually means waiting on the dentist and the facialist, not the beach.

Why We Suggest a Half Syringe First

Lips are the area where a conservative start pays off most. A half syringe placed well adds hydration and definition that reads as 'rested' rather than 'done', and the other half can be added at the two-week check once you have lived with the result. Most patients who start this way find the half was enough.

Cheeks and jawline work the opposite way: under-filling leaves the result invisible. There, the plan is a full syringe per side at minimum, with the option of a second visit for more structure once the first has settled.

Lip Filler Before and After: The Border, Not the Size

One case from our Encinitas clinic shows the detail Del Mar patients most often ask for: a clearer edge where the lip meets the skin, without a visible jump in volume.

From the side, the upper lip now has a defined outline and a slight lift at the border. The vertical lines that soften that edge with age are reduced, and the lower lip is supported rather than enlarged. Nobody meeting this patient for the first time would guess filler was involved.

Precision here comes from product choice and placement. A lip gel such as Juvederm Volbella or Restylane Kysse is placed along the border with a fine needle, in small amounts, checking the profile between passes. The same approach is available at your consultation, ten minutes up the coast from Del Mar.

Driving In From Del Mar

Filler appointments are longer than Botox visits and you will want to go home afterward rather than back to a meeting, so the return drive matters more than the drive in. Every Del Mar neighborhood is under 20 minutes in each direction.

Del Mar Village

North on Camino del Mar into Coast Highway 101, through Solana Beach and Cardiff, about 10 minutes. The return is the same road south, with no freeway merge while your lips are still numb.

Del Mar Heights and Del Mar Mesa

Del Mar Heights Road to I-5 north, exit Encinitas Boulevard, west to Coast Highway 101: 12 to 15 minutes. For a slower, quieter return, take 101 south to Del Mar Heights Road and climb from the coast.

Torrey Pines

North Torrey Pines Road to Camino del Mar to Coast Highway 101, about 15 minutes with the lagoon and racetrack on your right heading north. Avoid the 8 to 9 a.m. window on weekdays.

Carmel Valley

I-5 north from Del Mar Heights Road or Carmel Valley Road to Encinitas Boulevard, 15 to 18 minutes. Carmel Valley patients tend to book the last morning slot so swelling peaks at home overnight rather than at a desk.

We see patients Tuesday through Saturday. Mid-morning appointments give lips the most hours to calm before an evening out; late-afternoon appointments suit cheeks, chin and jawline, which barely swell.
